Tyro Payments Award Winning Office Plantscaping Project

Tyro Payments

It's complex...but we worked miracles together

Greening the world, one plant at a time!

Not all plant hire companies will quote for the uniqueness and complexities of this brief, with over 700 plants to be installed and most of them high above the working office. Challenge accepted. Working together with each of the stakeholders, the working space is not only spectacular, but award winning!

The Brief.

Our client’s problem that needed solving.

The brief was very specific. The client, Tyro Payments, needed to find a way to enable their staff and visitors to feel relaxed, yet productive. Connected, yet private. The spaces needed to have a natural feel, and the inclusion of plants was imperative, yet without taking up valuable office real estate. The installation and ongoing use of the space needed to be resourceful and sustainable.

It was obvious this was not your standard plantscaping installation.

With the inclusion of longline joinery and overhead planting, working with the builder was imperative…and that is often complex with each supplier and contractor having their own timelines, schedules, and deadlines.

We needed to make this work, and we needed to make the design and installation run smoothly with all parties.

Design and Installation.

Our solution.

Every now and then a project comes along that is the perfect scenario. This installation was it. From the moment we had our first briefing, Geyer’s team of Architects and Valmont’s team of Designers communicated every detail, and this continued throughout the process. They gave us a specific visual brief.

We were able to work on solutions for the client and get the job done, focusing on how and where to place our hanging plants. We needed to make sure these plants worked to become a beautiful feature of this office design and could also be maintained ongoing with little disruption to the working office.

We have worked with Valmont and Geyer on many projects in the past and it’s always been smooth sailing with little or no challenges. It makes a difference to the outcome for the client which is the result we are all after. It was a pleasure to install this job.

The designer played a heavy role in this project, and we were pleased to be able to deliver for them on their expectations. This meant making sure we lived up to someone else’s ideas, so we had to get this right.

Our team internally were impressive, working on their own components to make the bigger picture a success. Everyone worked on time, efficiently and effectively. From measuring up to making joinery top plates, ordering, and keeping hundreds of hanging plants healthy and ready to install and coordinating and installing everything while aligning with other stakeholders. Everything just worked.

Having extremely good project managers supported our role in the overall finished product. This included us making sure we could deliver our ongoing maintenance long after the completion date of the project. Something that is often neglected or left out of the design equation. Not so for this client.

For the hanging plants, we used Pothos (Devil’s Ivy) which are bright and healthy. We keep them that way with good care and maintenance. While the installation is more time consuming than floor or desk plants, we have installed these in areas that are accessible for the plant technicians to maintain, which includes clipping them back to keep them full and lush. The odd dangling vine gives a nice affect.

We included a variety of plants in their joinery to make sure they would give a biophilic feel to the whole office. We used Lady Valentine, Deremensis, Janet Craig, Happy Plants, Lemon/Lime Deremensis, and Zanzibar Gems of different sizes.

We’re actively exploring and already implementing innovative technologies, rethinking how we use and reuse materials and working collaboratively with our own suppliers, staff, and clients to deliver spaces that truly inspire in both aesthetics and sustainable credentials. We do this through our Three C’s CSR plan.

Client Outcomes.

How our client benefited from our installation.

Our client was extremely happy with the outcomes, considering the complexities that presented during the project, and we were impressed with how well everyone worked together with each of the stakeholders involved to make this a success. The look was a stunning ‘garden’ and hanging greenery that staff are happy to be around. This allowed us to ‘bring the outside in!’

Whether they look up or around, there is always nature around them. This means people feel more comfortable in their office environment and productivity is improved. Clients are always happy with that.

Our  client is satisfied that we are affecting change in the world through  sustainable practices for a better world, better workplace, and better bottom-line  outcomes for everyone involved. Working with clients, architects, and designers  who align with our own CSR principles is extremely important to Green Design.

Our client’s installation not only won design awards, but our plant installation won an award with the Interior Plantscape Association of Aust. and NZ for 2022.
